Golf
Originally produced in the late 1990s, the late golfing legend Peter Alliss went on a voyage of discovery. He explored 6 countries, seeking out the unique characteristics of its golf courses and the famous people connected with these dramatic panoramas. Each programme is beautifully crafted and includes not only the ‘human’ element of these wonderful places but Peter Alliss is a great communicator - and he enjoys both chats and a few holes with some great characters on his journey.

A Golfer's Travels With Peter Alliss - Spain | 30 mins
Peter travelled to Southern Spain in the year of the Ryder Cup at Valderrama.
First, he visited the grandeur of Seville before interviewing Snr. Jaime Ortiz-Patino, owner of Valderrama and the driving force behind its securing the Ryder Cup for Spain. Snr. Patino gave a very candid account of his obsessive desire to make his course the best in mainland Europe. An expert green keeper in his own right, we saw how the course earned itself the nickname “the Augusta of Europe”.

They played golf on a course amongst the vines of one of the oldest estates close to Cape Town – Steenberg winery.
This was Sir Gary’s first time in Cape Town and he talked about the ban on playing in South Africa whilst he was a cricketer despite having made many personal friends of the South African players.

A Golfer's Travels With Peter Alliss - Arizona | 30 mins
Peter ‘explored’ Arizona amid the wonderful setting of Sedona’s red rocks, and invited Admiral Alan Shepard, the first American in space, to play a few holes. Admiral Shepard gained golfing notoriety by playing a bunker shot on the moon during his Apollo 14 moon flight in 1981.
Peter and Alan played the 10th par 3 at Sedona GC followed by a fascinating interview up in the hills at a hillbilly outback village called Cleator.
